KAYAK CHALLENGE
River Journal by President Lance Crook.
It all started with a Promise to Past President John McIntosh to Kayak the River Murray and raise funds for ALCCRF. That was at our June handover.
September 14th was the said date to start and the 18th was the completion date, Morgan to Mannum a total of 170km, well tha
t was the plan but being who I am I started at Cadell another 17km up stream from Morgan ( 187km) is now the challenge.
I contacted the Mannum and Morgan Lions Clubs who were only too happy to help me out after all we are Lions.
I had a lot of help and support from my Lions members at Gilles Plains, from the design of my pamphlet to my backup support along the way.

To the wonderful turn out at my completion, club members and public it was fantastic, I was very happy to be able to say I did it and I never gave up to which some days I wish I had but the mind kept saying this is for the children.

CLEAN UP AUSTRALIA DAY
was held on Sunday 5th March 2023
Club Members and member of the public took part in Cleanup Australia day project.
We met at the Beefacres Community Hall carpark Pittwater Drive Windsor Gardens at 9.30am and proceeded to collect rubbish and trash in the near vicinity of the hall and carpark.
We thank our club convenor Lion dana Wortley and her staff for organising this project whch collected approx 30kg of rubbish and recyclables.
This project will be repeated in 2024
EMERGENCY MEDICAL INFORMATION BOOKLET.
The Emergency Medical Information Book
- contains all of your information and medical records which is needed if or when an ambulance is called and you need to be transported to a hospital. When paramedics are called, a typical scenario is that distraught family members may be unable to give correct details of the patient’s condition, or the medication they may be on. The paramedics physically have to collect all the patients medication in the house, try and obtain a medical history and take it to the hospital with the patient. This small book contains patient contacts, service or carer provider information, medi
cations and any medical condition, so a paramedic is able to treat and ready a patient for transport to a hospital.

SPECTACLES FOR RECYCLING

Used spectacles are collected by the club from several opticians in the district. They are forwarded to our Recycle For Sight project team interstate who clean, test, sort, and package and send to overseas countries for people needing help with sight correction. A small quantity is packged and sent to our Honarary member in Papua New Guinea for distribution to villagers who need help with their sight. Our contact member is Lion Lance Crook Mob 0415 154 093.
USED POSTAGE STAMP COLLECTION.
Used postage stamps are collect by the club on behalf of the Lions International Stamp Club (Australian Chapter). Stamps are sent to the Lions International Stamp Club where they are sorted and sold at stamp auctions.
The stamps will be clipped and sorted into saleable lots then sent on to the Sydney auctions to be included in the next PHILAS auction. Every stamp we receive is sold and every cent raised is then donated to the Australian Lions Childrens Mobility Foundation to assist purchase walking frames for children born with cerebral palsy. HOW CAN YOU HELP
It does assist us greatly, and saves us all a lot of extra work if the stamps on paper are clipped from the envelope leaving an edge of no more than ¼” and no less than 1/8” around the stamps. Clipped rather than torn as the torn stamps take away some of the value of from the clipped stamps in our boxes. This makes it so much more profitable (and easier) for us as the buyers are now refusing to buy unclipped stamps and anything unclipped has to be cleaned up by me before it can go into the auctions. They buy them by the kilo and will not bid if they see unclipped or closely clipped paper around the stamps. Similarly they do not want to purchase stamps that have been torn or scribbled through with a biro or texta and these stamps are also discarded by us when preparing our boxes for sale as they will devalue to good stamps if left in.
